  No it hurts. Ice cubes on the ear lobes helps but they generally don't let you do that at a piercing place.

The piercing gun going off in my ear scared the shit out of me, but there was no pain. The cartilage piercing did hurt though, and took like 6 months to heal. The lower ones took a few days tops.
