Lesson Plan for Medic. Lesson One: Say What You Mean

Lesson One: Say What You Mean.

How to communicate clearly when writing.

1. Be concise.

  • Put as much meaning as possible into the fewest words.
  • Avoid Filler Words, such as "like" "you know?"
  • When using emphasis, avoid lazy words, such as "very" "extremely" "kind of." If the word you are using does not seem strong enough, use a different one.

2. Explain what you mean clearly.

  • Stay on topic. Avoid distractions that do not further your point.
  • State your point immediately, and then elaborate and try to convince your audience.
  • Be specific, and avoid vague statements.
3. Reread what you have written.
  • Check your spelling.
  • Check for double words and typos that turned into other words.
  • Check for meaning. Did you communicate your point clearly? Did you wander off topic? Are there places you need to reinforce your point? or remove filler?
4. Revise
  • Make any necessary changes or corrections.
  • Reread one last time. If you have trouble finding errors, read it out loud. This will help.
  • Once all corrections have been made, send it!
