Water for Your Body
(By Medic)
Research and write an essay on water.
Make sure you answer these questions.
What is it? How does it affect the body? Why is it good for you? How much water should a person have a day? What are the pros of drinking enough water?
Water:
Water is made up from 2 Hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. When bonded together, they create water. Water covers close to 3/25 of the Earth's surface. It goes through the process where the liquid evaporates into a gas, to rise in the air, and then falls back to the Earth, as a liquid form again. You can also find it in the solid form of ice. This in itself makes water a natural resource. Water is considered undrinkable because all water has something in it. It can even be found in the desert, if you know how to find it. There are 2 types of water, salt water and fresh water. Humans and animals are not able to drink salt water, for survival, unless the water is desalinated, or the salt is removed. The extra salt in the water will cause dehydration, if too much is drank. All animals and plants require water to survive by. Water makes up a little over half of all living animals.
One reason water is good for you is because your body naturally uses water, so it needs to be replaced. Since your body is about 70% of water, you need to replace the water daily. Your cells and blood have water. The process where water enters the cells is called osmosis. Osmosis is the process where water passes through the semipermeable membrane of the cell. Too much water, in the body, can occur and cause swelling in the limbs. There is water in the blood cells, as well, which the blood carries the water through out the body. Water helps to hydrate the skin, muscles, and organs. The body's own fluid is made of water, too. Water is used to carry toxins and waste from the body. Helps to keep you body temperature maintained. I wish synovial fluid was made up of mostly water. Then I would be in great shape right about now. It is also needed in the bowel system where is helps to reduce constipation. It will also help with losing weight, give you energy, helps to decrease signs of wrinkles and betters your complexion.
There is a common thought that a person should drink 8 glasses of water per day. But, there is also a thought that a person should drink between 9 and 13 glasses a day. The thought is that males should take in 13 glasses and women should drink 9 glasses a day. In order for me to drink water, I place added ingredients (Crystal Lite) to water to change the taste. Unfortunately, adding ingredients have calories and sometimes carbohydrates and plain water does not have them. Our bodies use water for just about everything. Drinking water has also been said to get rid of headaches by preventing dehydration. It can even help increase your energy. It is supposed to help lubricate our joints, although I have not noticed a difference in my own joints.
