And for Luke

Worst day to be a girl.

Found not only a snake in my garden, but a roach in my bathroom.

Ugh.

Snake after long searching was a brown snake and not poisonous.

Roach was dead. And touched my sock!!!!

Which is why I am now still awake. Again.

5/21/16 story. Fiction. Short story.

The fight had reached a crescendo.

"Hit me!" She screamed into his face, full of anger and a desperation he didn't understand.
"Why?" He looked in her eyes, confused, but determined in his point.
She took the papers he had been holding and threw them up in the air over her head. They fell around her like leaves.
He stood up, and she stepped one step back to give him room but didn't back down steeling herself and expecting a blow. He took her hands in his and asked her again. Why do you want me to hit you?
"Be... Because that's how it works. I disagree, and we fight until... It's better this way. You have to do it, you have to hit me, aren't you mad at me?"
"Darling I'm furious with you."
She sank to her knees, but he didn't let go of her hands. Tears were starting to mark a trail down her cheeks. "Then why don't you hit me?"
"I'm angry, but I still love you. I would never hurt you like that."
"But it's worse if you let me win, then I'll just regret it later."
"Because you're wrong?"
"No... Because you'll find another way to make me pay for it."
"No I won't. We're both adults. If you win, it's because you made a valid point, or it isn't as important to me as it is to you."
"But... Then I don't know how to fight with you! I'm so angry and... And I'm not sure I'm ready to win an argument yet. It's scary."
"Then I guess we'll paint it red."
"No!"
"Well, that's a good start. Let's try this again, without raising our voices."
"I need to pick up these papers first. Do... Do adults take breaks from arguments? I mean, can we?"
"I hope so, because you are dead sexy when you're crying like that."
"Ooh, you were reading my mind."

Feminism

I realized a lot of my fantasies start with a punishment. I made a mistake, that caused my now suffering and pain, I deserve the thing happening to me. Now, I don't really believe that I deserve to be brutally anally raped for leaving hair in the shower or overcooking the meatloaf, and it's a play turn on for me because I enjoy the idea of consensual nonconsent and that is a good way, in my mind, to start a scene- to make up some reason for me to be "punished" aka, rough or painful sex.

But then, I started noticing that this is how every porn starts. Now listen, because this is important. Porn starts with a woman making a mistake, and she is punished (she "deserves it") with sex. I see a lot of women talking about rape culture and how people are always saying that if a woman gets raped she must have caused it in some way, and that woman have to watch what they do, etc... And I didn't see that in my daily life, so I didn't see that it made any sense. Until porn.  Now, men watch a lot of porn. Women, ehh, usually not so much. And there hasn't been a whole lot of writing about this, at least I haven't seen any. But think about this. My typical rape fantasy and the typical male porn start the same way.

Men are being spoon fed that if a woman gives you an opening, or you can find an excuse, it's ok to pressure or manipulate her to have sex.

Just once I'd like to see a porn where she says, no, not my ass... Yet. And he says ok and they go back to doggy style for a bit and then she says ooooooh yeah ok put it in my ass.
Or
Why, what did I do? I'm sorry!    Nothing, it's not your fault, you were just unlucky today.  Ensuing rape scene.

Just realized as I'm listening to pandora that I can't tell the difference between Simple Man by Shinedown and my husband singing it.

Study today "How to sell what you make" book

While reading the book loaned to me, I came across a section in a very long chapter that clicked for me. It's not that the rest of the book didn't make sense, it's just that it feels like a lot of this information doesn't apply to me. This book seems to be written for a crafter who makes a LOT of things in a short time.

Anyway, it moves on to salesmanship, and lists some suggestions/techniques to "catch" a sale.
This information really resounds with me, because it is not something I do naturally. It is something I will have to practice, and really work on.

- Make eye contact and invite the person into your booth/space.
- Ask open-ended questions and listen sincerely. Answer questions.  Instead of saying "do you like this?" ask, "What do you like about this?" "What are you looking for?"
- Demonstrate. Encourage the buyer to touch the items.

Human communication takes place in these four zones:
Public (12 ft +)
Social-Consultative (4 - 12 ft)
Personal (18 inches - 4 ft)
Intimate (9 - 18 inches)

The closer a person moves to you, the move interested they are, and therefore the more willing they are to engage in a business transaction.  Moving into a person's space can be done in a charismatic fashion and bring them to the mindset of purchase, but done incorrectly it can spook the person and ruin the deal, making them uncomfortable with you (and your products).

Keep your booth open and uncluttered.
A counter between you and your customer adds distance between you and can be a barrier to a sale, giving an uninterested customer a "quick getaway"
